OMG Dora Died?02.28.10

Did Dora die?

Not really. We had a Janazah workshop at the Masjid last night for the sisters. And for the demonstration, sister E used a life sized balloon dummy doll that looked like Dora the Explorer lol (well to me it did) She was wearing a purple Jilbab and a matching hijab. E put the Dora on the floor on top of a towel and covered her with a sheet. One of the sisters that came a little late thought that it was an actual person and freaked out lol.

Anywayz the notes from the slides will be up ‘really’ soon inshallah – just need to finish typing them up. ;)

Wisdom From Unlikely Sources02.26.10

Go to any quotation site, and you’ll notice that the majority of quotes come from only famous people.

However, who ever said that wisdom comes primarily from famous people? The following is a compilation of true stories and conjured tales from MYM staff writers (as well as a special guest writer towards the end) that think otherwise and have encountered wisdom from unlikely sources.

Be Patient

  • Bear any harm that you encounter on the path of Dawah
  • Be obedient to Allah and don’t do things he forbade you from doing

Patience – Sabr – is 3 Kinds:

  1. Patience upon obedience to Allah (story of Sa’ad and his Mom)
  2. Patience upon avoiding that which Allah has forbidden (Story of Yusuf)
  3. Patience with regard to the decrees of Allah which he puts into effect. ie. Qadr (Story of Ayyub)

Home work: Choose one of the different kidns of sabr and write a page about it. Include examples.

Jihadun Nafs is 4 Kinds (according to Ibn Qayyim)

  1. Strive to learn the deen
  2. Strive to put that knowledge into action (Iqra’ then Qum)
  3. Strive in Dawah
  4. Strive to have patience against all hardships

Know may Allah have mercy upon you, that it is obligatory – Wajib – upon every Muslim, male or female, to learn and act upon the following 3 matters:

  1. Knowing that Allah created us and provided sustenance for us, and He did not leave us without a purpose. Rather he sent a messenger to us. So whoever obeys him will enter Jannah, and who ever rejects and disobeys him will enter the Fire.
  2. Knowing that Allah is not pleased that anyone should me made a sharer in worship with Him, neither any angel nor Prophet.
  3. Knowing that whoever is obedient to the messenger and singles out Allah with all worship and tawheed, then it is not permissible for him to have friendship and alliance with those who oppose Allah and his messenger, even if they are related to him.

Masjid Makeover – Pen’s Projects02.21.10

Assalamu Alaykum,

Remember last month I said I was going to post up my projects every month? Well I didn’t do much on January – just a bulletin board acutally maybe I’ll post up the pictures ;) Anyways for this month and probably the next one too, I want to take part of the Masjid Makeover project that is being conducted by 1000GoodDeeds.com

The aim and intention of the masjid makeover project is to beautify and clean up our masjids. To promote team work. Develop project management and negotiation skills. Encourage going green and earth friendly behavior. The most important of all is to learn to do deeds selflessly for the pleasure of Allah.

GOALS AND INTENTIONS
  1. Beautify and clean up a masjid
  2. Team work, brotherhood, unity
  3. Dawah
  4. Work for pleasure of Allah
  5. Project management skill development
  6. Go green, don’t waste
So here’s how it works:
  • You get a team together and elect from amongst yourselves a leader or manager. Pick a Masjid and find out what needs to be done. Get permission from the leaders of the Masjid to do the makeover and plan the makeover with your team. Then get everyone together and implement that plan. But before you do any cleaning or anything, make sure you take ‘before’ pictures. You can also challenge other Masajid in your area to join the Masjid Makeover Challenge. When you’re done take your after pictures and or video.
The deadline is April 30. Just a heads up to all the Portland Sisters that read my blog, make sure you reply back to your emails! ;)
